Pa. gaming revenue increases significantly in August

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported a revenue increase of over 14% in August. 

The combined total revenue generated from all forms of gaming, along with fantasy contests, during August 2025 was $582,339,535, representing an increase of 14.15% compared to revenue generated in August 2024. 

This total represents the second-highest monthly revenue, surpassed only by May 2025, which reached $601,833,369. Slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals (VGTs) are sources of gaming revenue regulated by the PGCB. Total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests was $238,543,797 during August 2025. 

Retail slot machines revenue for this August was $216,636,299, a 2.6% increase in revenue when compared to the $211,149,401 generated in August 2024. The number of slot machines in operation in August 2025 was 24,332 compared to 24,595 at the casinos a year ago at this time. The tax revenue from the play of slots machines in August 2025 was $105,315,189. 

Revenue for retail table games for August 2025 was $81,055,596, representing an increase of 0.12% from August 2024 revenue of $80,959,807. Total tax revenue from table games play during August 2025 was $12,860,041. Tax revenue generated from internet gaming play during August 2025 was $103,871,039. 

This August’s total sports wagering handle was $515,446,826, 6.21% higher than August 2024 total of $485,289,137. The taxable revenue figure for August 2025 was $49,151,040, which was 63.82% higher when compared to the August 2024 taxable revenue of $30,002,574. Tax revenue generated from sports wagering during August 2025 was $14,608,351. 

Total adjusted revenue for August 2025 for VGTs was $3,582,605, or 2.44% lower than the August 2024 revenue of $3,672,053. By the end of August 2025, all VGT Operators offered the maximum permitted five machines at 74 qualified truck stop establishments, compared to five machines at 74 establishments at this time last year. Tax revenue collected from the play of VGTs in August 2025 was $1,800,263. 

Revenue for Fantasy Contests was $664,758 in August 2025, which was an increase of 2.58% over the August 2024 revenue of $648,036. Tax revenue collected from the play of Fantasy Contests in August 2025 was $88,915. 

The PGCB oversees all aspects of gambling involving 17 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and VGTs at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests. The land-based casino industry in Pennsylvania consists of six racetrack (Category 1) casinos, five stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, two resort (Category 3) casinos and four mini-casinos (Category 4). Casinos and the other types of board-regulated gaming generated $2.8 billion in tax revenue in Fiscal Year 2024-25.
