Meghan and Brandon Bossard bought the franchise after becoming a fan of the frozen treat during their visits to locations on the boardwalks in New Jersey and Maryland.
A previous owner had locations in several spots around the Lehigh Valley the past several years, but Meghan Bossard said the new shop in Fogelsville, which replaces the now-closed Coplay store, is a bit different.
For instance, she said, the new shop goes beyond just offering the Polish Water Ice. It also has 12 flavors of hard ice cream as well as soft-serve ice cream and shakes.
Bossard said she also plans to build the business by having family friendly events during the day to encourage mothers to bring their young children.
She said she and her husband chose the location in the Lehigh Hills Shopping Center on Glenlivet Drive off Route 100 in Fogelsville because it is a high-traffic area with more than 17,000 cars passing by daily.
“We also thought with all of the planned real estate going up in the next few years, it would be a good location,” she said.
Besides retail sales, Polish Water Ice also sells wholesale to athletic groups and delivers to local pools and birthday parties, she said.
The shop will be open year-round.
