More than $101 million was wagered in Pennsylvania on last Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, a record high according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).
The PGCB reported Thursday that preliminary figures show $101,548,073 was wagered in the commonwealth on this Super Bowl through retail and online sportsbooks. The amount marked a 20.4% increase over the previous high for wagers placed in Pennsylvania for a Super Bowl achieved in 2023 when the Eagles met the Chiefs.
According to a release, patrons overwhelmingly placed winning wagers resulting in negative revenue for the sports wagering operators of $6,532,147. The PGCB noted a high percentage of wagers placed on the Eagles to win. Philadelphia defeated Kansas City, 40-22.
Super Bowl wagers could be placed in Pennsylvania at 18 retail locations and through 11 online wagering sites. Online sites accounted for 91.2% of the money wagered.
The PGCB oversees all aspects of gambling involving 17 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and Video Gaming Terminals at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests.
