Team Pennsylvania has released a Pennsylvania Nuclear Energy Roadmap, a comprehensive strategy designed to align stakeholders and drive coordinated action to strengthen Pennsylvania’s position as a national leader in nuclear energy.
The roadmap has five strategic goals focused on things needed to expand nuclear capacity by the middle of the century.
Those include strengthening leadership and collaboration, sustaining and modernizing the existing fleet, enabling deployment of new technologies, growing Pennsylvania’s industrial supply chain, and building a future-ready talent pipeline.
“I’m an all-of-the-above energy Governor, and under my leadership, we are restarting Crane Clean Energy Center nuclear plant and bringing 835 megawatts of clean energy back onto the grid while creating thousands of good-paying jobs. This Nuclear Energy Roadmap builds on Pennsylvania’s longstanding energy leadership to ensure the backbone of America’s nuclear future continues to run through our Commonwealth,” said Governor Josh Shapiro in a release.
The roadmap was developed in collaboration with more than 70 leaders across 50 organizations.
“I applaud Team PA for their work to strengthen Pennsylvania’s position in nuclear technology and nuclear power,” said Senator Dave McCormick. “As the second largest generator of nuclear power, Pennsylvania stands ready to lead a new era of cheap, reliable baseload power. Our Energy and Innovation Summit, along with Team PA’s roadmap, helps show us how to build on that foundation and create great-paying jobs across the Commonwealth.”
