Tower Health eliminating 350 jobs

Reading-based Tower Health will be cutting 350 positions, a large share of which will be at Pottstown Hospital.
The health network made a statement on the news.
“These difficult decisions were not made lightly. They were made out of necessity to ensure that we can chart our own pathway forward and continue serving our communities…These changes are not simply about reducing costs. They reflect a strategic priority to reinvest savings in the pillars that power our future.”
The health network said changes include expanding its provider network, accelerating innovation through AI and technology adoption and enhancing the overall patient experience.
With a stronger financial foundation, Tower Health said it believes it will be well-positioned to be the provider of choice.
The health network also sent a message directly to staff.
“Across the country, health systems are under extraordinary financial pressures and uncertainty. Rising supply chain and labor costs, coupled with reimbursement rates that have not kept pace with expenses, are creating significant pressure. At the same time, demographic shifts — such as a growing Medicare population, more uninsured patients, and evolving Medicaid policies — are adding complexity to the environment in which we provide care,” the letter said.
Tower said it is taking difficult but necessary steps to reinforce its foundation and ensure Tower Health continues serving our communities with excellence for years to come.
“As part of this effort, we are streamlining and realigning our leadership and corporate infrastructure to better reflect today’s healthcare realities…We have also evaluated services across our hospitals and other sites and are making changes where programs are no longer sustainable or aligned with how and where patients seek care.”
