Allentown lowers age requirements for seasonal and part-time employment

To fill part-time and , the City of has lowered the age requirement from 16 to 15. 

The city is looking to fill jobs like cashiers, attendants and lifeguards for city pools. 

Applicants hired at age 15 will be required to have working papers and will be subject to applicable State and Federal laws and regulations, the city said.  

Lifeguard candidates must maintain current, valid certification in and/or the ability to pass all of the following: American Red Cross Lifeguarding; American Red Cross First Aid; American Red Cross CPR&AED for the Professional Rescuer; and any additional certifications required by local or state laws including a pre- lifeguard knowledge and skills check.  

The city coordinates with the Red Cross to provide lifeguard training and certification, at no cost to Allentown residents, the city said.  

The next certification courses are scheduled for June 17 to 19 and June 24 to 26. Registration can be found at https://tinyurl.com/5n8udtxc. Individuals who apply to work for the city must also successfully pass background checks and a pre-employment drug screening.  

The city will host open interviews for seasonal positions on May 23 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Recreation Office at 3000 Parkway Boulevard; May 29 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Cedar Beach Pool at 101 N. Ott Street; and May 30 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. also at Cedar Beach Pool.
