Barley Snyder expands international business law practice

Barley Snyder is expanding its international business group to better serve its clients in the region 

The expansion of the firm’s international business and trade capabilities comes through a newly structured subgroup within its Business Practice Group, the International Business & Trade Group. 

While Barley Snyder has long advised clients on a broad range of cross-border business and trade issues, International Business & Trade Group Chair Abby Tucker said there has been growing client demand because of an increasingly complex global marketplace. 

The practice group focuses on such international legal issues as cross-border business formations and corporate structuring; international contract drafting and negotiation; global market entry strategies and cross-border transactions; immigration support for employers and individuals and international intellectual property protection and strategy. 

“Tariffs took off last year and all of a sudden the tariff work was getting really busy,” Tucker said. “A lot of our businesses needed our help. This was a chance to focus on these international areas.” 

The International Business & Trade Group is a diverse group of the firm’s attorneys, bringing together attorneys from across multiple practice areas with their existing experience advising clients on the legal and regulatory issues that arise when businesses operate across borders.  

Tucker said there has been a great deal of interest from the firm’s attorneys in joining the group, because many attorneys – especially the younger ones – are seeing it as a specialty to grow in. 

The group advises clients ranging from manufacturers and distributors to logistics providers and professional service firms that depend on global markets to remain competitive. 

“Businesses today are navigating an increasingly complex global environment, with evolving regulations, supply chain challenges and cross-border risks,” said Partner and Business Practice Group Chair Daniel  Desmond. “By aligning our international capabilities in a more structured way, we are building on the strength of our existing experience and providing clients with a more integrated, forward-looking approach to their international operations.” 

Tucker said clients in the Central and Eastern Pennsylvania region benefit because they can receive experienced international business legal services close to home. 

In many cases businesses have had to seek help from larger firms in major cities like New York, Philadelphia or Washington, D.C., but now they can get the help from Barley Snyder Attorneys. 

“Our clients don’t have to feel like they have to go to those firms and pay those prices. They can get help at home,” Tucker said. 

By drawing on the firm’s work across corporate, immigration, intellectual property, real estate and regulatory practices, Tucker said the group provides coordinated and practical solutions tailored to the complexities of global commerce.

In connection with this newly structured subgroup, Barley Snyder has also rebranded its Transportation, Logistics & Trade Industry Group as the Transportation & Logistics Industry Group, to reflect a more focused alignment of its industry groups with the firm’s evolving service offerings.
