As the grocery store chain works to revamp its home delivery and ecommerce operations, Giant will be closing its centralized fulfillment centers, including locations in Coopersburg, Lancaster, Willow Grove and North Coventry.
“We’ve learned over the past few years that there isn’t a one size fits all approach to our e-commerce business, particularly our fulfillment model. With customers expecting faster delivery, we need to ensure we are operating as efficiently as possible to meet their ever-changing needs,” commented a spokesperson from the grocer.
Giant will transition fully to store-based fulfillment and discontinue centralized fulfillment.
Instead, Giant Direct orders will be picked by store team members in area stores and delivered by a third-party provider such as Instacart or DoorDash instead of a Giant Direct driver.
The spokesperson said Giant anticipates that operations will transition by the end of April.
With the change, the grocer said customers can expect faster delivery times.
Under the new system orders can be delivered in as little as two hours.
“E-commerce remains an important segment of our business strategy and key to our future omnichannel growth. We remain committed to providing an outstanding experience to our customers by offering speedy delivery, more delivery windows, broad product assortment and value,” the company said in a statement.
