Hybrid work environment evolving, but companies call office attendance important

Commercial real estate firm CBRE has just released its 2026 Americas Office Occupier Sentiment Survey, which found that companies are increasingly focused on employee experience, workplace quality and location.
The firm said these results tie directly into the region’s second quarter office figures, as these preferences are already influencing certain office trends across the local market.
CBRE said it appears that while evolving, the hybrid work environment is here to stay, and companies are saying office space is important to them.
To achieve that, 62% of occupiers said enhancing employee experience is a key to their workplace objective, and nearly half are considering relocation strategies to support that goal. In the Greater Philadelphia region, Class A and trophy assets captured 56% of all leasing activity in the second quarter.
The survey found that inconvenient locations, 62%, and a lack of amenities, 53%, are the biggest barriers to office attendance.
Meanwhile, occupier sentiment is becoming more balanced. The survey found 38% of companies expect to expand their office footprint over the next three years, compared with 34% planning contractions.
