Located in Allentown, Joyful Giving is a nonprofit that packages essential items that look and feel like gifts with the intention of creating joy. Joy Maker bags are community-made by people of all ages and abilities and given to non-profits. Under Hannah Votta Voleman’s leadership as founder and executive director, Joyful Giving is entirely run by over 3,000 volunteers who are passionate about the cause.
“I love surrounding myself with strong, community-focused women. Women create impactful change when uniting with clear intention, hope and purpose,” Votta Voleman said, noting the organization’s board of directors is made up of only females. “These women work in different sectors but all have their pulse on the needs of our community. The Joyful Giving board positions will always be held by women.”
In rare occasions, Votta Voleman says she has faced challenges like not being taken seriously when discussing her cause.
“Fortunately, this has been extremely rare because the impact of Joy Maker bags being received globally by 40,000 children and adults speaks for itself,” she said. “Over 40,000 Joy Maker bags have been received by children and adults worldwide. We also receive new requests weekly from individuals and businesses that want to volunteer with Joyful Giving to build Joy Maker bags.”
Joyful Giving supports women in the Lehigh Valley through partnerships with United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, Valley Youth House, Crime Victims Council, Turning Point, Mother2Mother, among many others.
