Local hospitals earn “A” marks on Leapfrog hospital safety report

The said 48 hospitals in Pennsylvania earned an “A” in the Hospital Safety Grade report. 

Among the recipients of an “A” grade were Luke’s University Health Network’s Grand View, Upper Bucks, Sacred Heart, Bethlehem, Allentown, Easton, Miners, Anderson, Monroe, Geisinger St. Luke’s, and Carbon campuses; 

‘s Pocono and Schuylkill campuses; and 

In the biannual report, the Leapfrog Group assigns ratings of “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” to most general hospitals in the United States based on their ability to protect patients from , accidents, injuries and infections. 

Driven in Pennsylvania by the Lehigh Valley Business Coalition on Healthcare (LVBCH), the Safety Grades are designed give the community critical insight about local hospitals. Hospital Safety Grades are updated twice per year by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog. 

In Pennsylvania, 116 hospitals were graded, and 48 earned an A, 34 earned a B, 33 earned a C, 1 earned a D, and none earned an F.   

Overall, Pennsylvania has 36.9% “A” Hospitals and ranks as 13th in the country for percentage of “A” hospitals. 

National data from the spring 2026 Safety Grade shows significant improvement in 17 measures of errors and infections. This includes , barcode medication administration, computerized physician order entry and five patient experience measures. 

“Preventable medical errors remain far too common in hospitals across the country, including in our own community,” said Amanda Greene, vice president of Programs and Initiatives forLVBCH and Leapfrog Regional Leader. “This latest round of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade shows encouraging progress in nationwide. The employers and purchasers in our coalition believe transparency is essential, and by working together, we can continue reducing preventable harm and making care safer for everyone.”

  • Duke LifePoint Healthcare’s Conemaugh Nason Medical Center 
  • Einstein Healthcare Network’s Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital 
  • Geisinger Health – Part of Risant Health’s Bloomsburg, Lewistown, and Muncy Medical Center campuses 
  • Independence Health System’s Clarion and Frick campuses 
  • Jefferson Health – Abington’s Lansdale hospital 
  • Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Pocono and Schuylkill campuses 
  • Main Line Health’s Bryn Mawr, Lankenau, and Riddle campuses 
  • Meadville Medical Center 
  • Mount Nittany Medical Center 
  • Penn Medicine’s Doylestown and Lancaster General campuses 
  • Penn State Health’s St. Joseph, Milton S. Hershey, Hampden, and Lancaster campuses 
  • Clair Health
