With a busy spring break travel season fast approaching, Lehigh Valley International Airport is looking forward to a continued increase in passenger traffic.
Last month, the Lehigh Northampton Transportation Authority said 69,912 passengers traveled through ABE. That’s the highest total for February since 2020 -and an 8.1% increase from Feb. 2023.
“For the first time ever, the airport opened its Overflow Parking Lot during President’s Day weekend. Certainly, the addition of new destinations like Denver and Melbourne (FL) have given the region more options when choosing ABE,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, executive director of the authority.
Allegiant had increased passenger traffic of 17.8%, while American and Delta passenger traffic remained flat. United declined 10.4% from last February.
Meanwhile, the authority said construction crews have started to build a new bar in the center of the Wilfred M. “Wiley” Post, Jr. Concourse.
The concession renovation project will also include the arrival of Which Wich – a grab-n-go alternative for passengers, Zekraft – a local Lehigh Valley café and coffee shop featuring signature meals and coffee drinks, and the redesign of the Airport Gift Shop.
“We’re really excited about providing a more extensive menu of food vendors with great options for passengers,” said Stoudt.
Also last month, 21,410,569 pounds of air cargo was processed through Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) in February. That’s an increase of 7.4% from Feb. 2023.
