Lehigh Valley Business: How long has Atlas Machining & Welding Inc. been operating in the Lehigh Valley and what are its primary services?

Lisa Keeney-Ziegenfus: The company was founded by my father, Harold Keeney, in 1981.

In the early days, Atlas Machining & Welding Inc. dedicated itself to provide emergency repair and maintenance services to the local cement industry. Today, Atlas has grown into a globally recognized, full-service job-shop delivering machining, fabricating, laser cutting, precision bending, pressure vessels, mechanical repair, assembly, disassembly and emergency services.

Industries served range from oil and gas, mining and minerals, food and beverage, chemicals, power generation, aerospace, electronics, transportation and many others in-between.

LVB: What have been some of the biggest challenges and opportunities that Atlas Machining & Welding Inc. has encountered throughout its years in business?

Keeney-Ziegenfus: Finding qualified people is our biggest challenge. The type of custom work we do requires very experienced individuals who are able to adapt and perform in our fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

The Valley is doing a great job at getting the buzz out there about manufacturing and encouraging individuals to go into the trade, so I am hopeful that in the next five to 10 years, our struggle will lessen.
