Charles F. Barbera is president and CEO of Reading Hospital, a role he has held for the past three years. Barbera has worked in various roles at Reading Hospital for the past 30 years.
“My responsibilities include direction and oversight for Reading Hospital’s operations, clinical outcomes, employee and physician engagement and community engagement. I am also a practicing physician in our Emergency Department and continue to provide direct care to patients. Being able to do both is one of the most rewarding aspects of this position,” Barbera said.
In a previous Power List profile , Barbera said he is responsible for the direction and oversight for the hospitals operations, clinical outcomes, employee and physician engagement and service to the community.
“We believe in putting people first in everything we do, and we are deeply committed to working closely with our community, physicians [and] nurses,” Barbera said.
In 2024, Reading Hospital was named an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, an independent non-profit organization that handles evaluations and accreditations for health care organizations and programs across the United States.
“With this accreditation Reading Hospital is the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in the region and is among the top 5% of accredited centers in the nation. It is the highest and most demanding level of accreditation that a stroke center can achieve. It demonstrates that the hospital can receive and treat the most complex stroke cases,” he said.
