Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone Development Authority
Steve Bamford has led the Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone Development Authority [ANIZDA] as executive director for nine years.
Bamford is responsible for managing the organization’s operations and administering a “unique development finance tool in accordance with the Neighborhood Improvement Zone Act [NIZ].”
“We seek to improve the built environment to support a vibrant, connected, walk able community in a public-private partnership with developers, state, and local government,” Bamford said.
Among ANIZDA’s major projects this year was the opening of Archer Music Hall on Hamilton Street in Allentown.
“The venue attracts thousands of residents and visitors to downtown Allentown for live shows. The music hall developed by City Center Group and operated by Live Nation was funded in part through the NIZ.”
According to Bamford, ANIZDA continued to invest in public improvement projects, including streetscape improvements like new sidewalks, trees street lights and other public upgrades in the 800-1100 blocks on Hamilton Street. The installation of “wayfinding” signs is “designed to improve connectivity and the pedestrian experience.”
