Associate Executive Director for Business Development
Community Action Lehigh Valley
Associate executive director for business development for the past two years, Chris Hudock has worked for Community Action Lehigh Valley for 16 years, helping individuals realize their dreams by providing financial and technical small business assistance.
“The pandemic hit micro businesses extremely hard,” he said. “Many had few resources to respond to this unprecedented event and they were facing a crisis. We quickly switched from a lending institution to an administrator of grants. (We’re) a Community Development Financial Institution, (and) the community is why we exist. As their needs change, so must we. In 2008 it was the Great Recession, in 2020 it was the pandemic. Who knows what comes next but I know that we will be ready to help.”
The most challenging part of his job “is that there is not enough time (or) resources to help all (who) deserve a chance. Many deserving businesses are denied an opportunity for conventional funding (because) they just don’t fit within a regulatory or credit ‘box.’ ”
The most rewarding aspect, however, “is when we provide an underserved business owner with an opportunity and they flourish to the point that they, in return, provide an opportunity to someone else in need. That’s really cool.”
