McConnell, a spinal surgeon for almost 30 years, evaluates and treats patients of all ages with conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic or lumbar spine. These include degenerative and herniated discs, pinched nerves, traumatic injuries, deformities, infections and tumors. He also performs complex, state-of-the-art restorative surgeries.
McConnell co-founded the Spine Education and Research Foundation, a 501(c3) nonprofit that supports Operation Straight Spine, an annual mission trip to Kolkata, India, “where we provide spinal surgery services to indigent patients,” he said.
His advice is to “be humble, listen, admit when you don’t know something and never stop learning.”
McConnell enjoys skiing, hiking, biking, cutting firewood, hunting and fishing – basically “anything outdoors, especially things that involve traveling, a good workout, freedom of movement, solitude, a nice view and places I have never seen before.”
