St. Luke’s opens expanded Sleep Lab at Miners Campus

St. Luke’s University Health Network has expanded access to treatment of  with the opening of a newly expanded Sleep Lab at its . 

The new $1.8 million eight-bed unit offers expert evaluation, testing and treatment to help restore healthy sleep and enhance overall well-being. 

The health network said millions of Americans suffer from sleep disorders that can lead to serious health issues, but specialized care can be limited in many communities. This expanded sleep lab should significantly increase capacity and improve access for residents of Carbon and Schuylkill counties.  

With the expansion, the  Sleep Lab now includes six additional testing rooms, six registered technicians and three Specialized Providers, offering increased access to provider evaluations, specialized sleep disorder treatment and testing closer to home.  

Work on the expansion was completed on Dec. 12 after eight months of construction. 

Part of St. Luke’s Neurosciences, St. Luke’s Sleep Medicine provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for conditions such as insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome and snoring. Common risk factors for sleep disorders include obesity, advancing age, family history, hypertension, smoking, and being male or postmenopausal.  

“Sleep is essential for physical and mental health, yet millions struggle with disorders that impact daily life,” said Diana Laquinta, president of St. Luke’s Miners Campus. “Expanding the Sleep Lab reflects our commitment to improving access to specialized care for our community. We’re proud to bring these services closer to home for patients who need them most.” 

The health network noted that common risk factors for sleep disorders include obesity, advancing age, family history, hypertension, smoking, and being male or postmenopausal.
