Around 700 local employees and 50 area nonprofits will be participating in the 29th annual Lehigh Valley Day of Caring on June 23.  

Renae Yeager is a busy woman. Her full-time job is vice president of corporate audit at PPL Corp., a post she has held since 2015. But, during her 38 years with the company it isn’t just her 9-to-5 work that keeps her busy. 

Laurie Gostley Hackett, the director of community relations and philanthropy at Air Products will head this year’s campaign.

The United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley is kicking off its 2020 campaign with an extra boost. City Center Investment Corp., the company behind much of the development going on in downtown Allentown, pledged a $1 million matching gift through its Building Community initiative.

Nearly 30 organizations and agencies in Berks County have received grants totaling $525,000 from the United Way of Berks County’s COVID-19 Response Fund, with additional grant applications still under review.

Penn Community Bank in Perkasie said it is working with United Way of Bucks County to create a Bucks County COVID-19 Recovery Fund to help those who experience a financial crisis from the pandemic.

With it being the first ever United Way Day of Caring in Carbon County, it was a pretty big deal and volunteers were excited to get started on four community service projects in the region.

John Malloy, chairman, president and CEO of Victaulic Co. in Forks Township, has been named, along with his wife Jane, as chair of the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley’s 2019 Campaign.

The United Way of Lebanon County has named Brooke Smith as its new CEO. She is replacing Kenny Montijo, who left the position in May.

June 20 marked the 27th annual United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley’s Day of Caring, which is run in partnership with the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley.
