R. Scott Unger is executive director of the Allentown Economic Development Corp., a role he has held since 2008. AEDC is a non-profit specializing in property rehabilitation, business incubation and strengthening urban manufacturing in the City of Allentown, according to a previous Power List profile.
Unger’s responsibilities include oversight of AEDC programs such as Bridgeworks Enterprise Center, Urban Made and Urban Sites, the previous profile said.
Unger is responsible for a variety of projects and initiatives. He oversees development project funding and redeveloping brownfields, which are industrial tracts which have been polluted and then abandoned. Unger manages rehabilitated manufacturing and industrial properties; provides incubator space and mentors new manufacturers to the area. He expands economic development financing programs to drive business growth within the City of Allentown.
Unger said in recent years AEDC added two more projects to its Urban Sites program. “Redevelopment of urban sites can be a challenging and lengthy process compared to developing in suburban greenfields. However, the benefits of urban site redevelopment can be significant. Adding these two projects will provide workforce-accessible employment opportunities, increase economic activity and help improve the value of adjacent properties here in the City of Allentown,” he said.
