Executive Director
Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone Development Authority
As Executive Director of the Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone Development Authority for the past eight years, Steve Bamford is responsible for managing the operations of the Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone Development Authority (ANIZDA) and administering a unique development finance tool in accordance with the Neighborhood Improvement Zone Act, he said.
“The program is addressing the effects of decades of economic decline and disinvestment in Allentown’s downtown core and riverfront areas,” Bamford said. “The public-private partnership with developers in the 130-acre zone has facilitated investment of over $1.15 billion in real estate development and improvements contributing to the City’s resurgence.”
Major projects funded through the Neighborhood Improvement Zone (NIZ) this year included development of the recently opened Da Vinci Science Center and soon to be completed Archer Music Hall, Bamford said.
“Both projects will attract thousands of visitors annually downtown. At the riverfront, NIZ funded construction of the mixed-use Neuweiler Lofts is underway and development of The Waterfront continued with groundbreaking for the River House apartments,” he said.
